This morning was super frustrating!
Noah got enough stickers on his chart and earned his prize last night, so this morning he was unmotivated to go on the potty and was perfectly happy just having me change him into a new pair of underwear each time he had an accident, infact he was having fun picking out a new pair each time. I am glad that he is wanting to wear them, but I hope that he is learning that wearing them goes along with going on the potty!
He had quite a few accidents this morning, and one of them I didn't notice he had pooped as well, so I took off his undies right where I was, which resulted in cleaning poop off the carpet! Not fun!
I finally realized a few of my mistakes:
1. I was trying to do a primary flyer (which is still not done) and checking back in with work off and on, so I wasn't able to be completely focused on him and potty training, as I was in the office for a bit.
2. I didn't set the timer, so more time would go by than I realized without a reminder or encouraging word from me to use the potty. (The timer actually seemed to help, at least help me be better about reminding him.)
3. He no longer had a physical, visual incentive. He had his chart, but it worked a lot better with him being able to "see" his prize on top of the fridge. Now without that, it's just a chart and stickers, and no amount of me telling him he would get to pick out a prize would sink in.
So.. I was able to move out to the living room so I was right there with him, I started setting the timer, and I poured the rest of our Halloween candy (mostly Tootsie Rolls left, nothing big) into a big bowl and told him that after each time he earned two stickers he could pick a candy. Since those changes he has not had an accident, and he has actually been telling me he needs to go without any prompting from me! ...I know part of it is that I gave in to letting him pick a candy each time he goes on the potty, but hey it's working! I don't think it hurts for him to have some incentive for the first little while. The only thing is now I think he is trying to go even when he doesn't have to just to get a candy HaHa, but I guess that's not going to hurt either...practice makes perfect right..and he's just practicing. ;) ..And he doesn't get a candy for just sitting there, he actually has to go.
As I was typing this, he actually just went in on his own and pulled down his underwear and sat down on his little potty and went all by himself! He's been using the big potty mostly, he seems to prefer it, but I'm fine with either he wants to use as long as he's using it!
So, this day has gotten a lot better! I have felt much less frustrated as the day has gone on!
Besides our rough start, the only other negatives I see is that I didn't get a chance to wash all of Noah's new underwear before he wore it, and it seems to have given him a rash on his little bum! :( (Will make very sure to wash the rest that didn't get washed last night tonight!)
Also, even though we really limited his liquid intake and made sure he went potty a lot before bed, he still woke up with a wet diaper. I'm wondering if he took a few big swigs of water in the bathtub?! Oh well, just have to work on that one again tonight...and until he can wake up dry consistently.
Hopefully tomorrow will be even better than today! At least if I have a rough start I have today to look back at and know that it doesn't need to set the tone for the whole day, that there is a chance for improvement, just need to re-evaluate and try and try again! :) Wish me luck!
P.S. Sorry for these super long entries!! Wow!

I am glad he is getting there! You are doing everything absolutely right and the hard work will eventually pay off!
The candy is such a great idea. I wish I would have thought of that at the beginning as well. My Mom told me to do, "whatever works as encouragement".
:) Yay for Noah and Yay for his Mommy!! :)
Thanks Kerry! :) So true, it will pay off eventually!
I think your mom is a very smart woman!! ;)
